Additionally there were the three crucial turnovers, and the two from Allen in particular. An interception in the end zone resulting in a nine-minute drive yielded no points, and his final quarter fumble that the Dolphins turned into seven points just later

It was classic 'previous Bills teams' as they shot themselves in the foot, falling into a hole on defense and Josh Allen trying to overcompensate to dig his team out of it - rather than the calm, disciplined, well-balanced Buffalo team we've seen this season

The Dolphins have served up a bit of everything this season so the jury's out on whether this is the beginning of a trend, but for the Bills they'll require an immediate bounce-back in a tough game against Tampa Bay next week as the Patriots are sneaking into a comfortable advantage at the summit of the AFC East

Visiting the Ravens is challenging too, but Denver have it more difficult in the AFC West division with the Chiefs to play twice, the Los Angeles Chargers (who might also challenge for first place but face the same problem) and also the Green Bay on the schedule

The Indianapolis also play the Kansas City, and have the Seattle, 49ers and two games with the 5-4 Jacksonville to face. There's a considerable distance to go but the door is open for a surprise top seed in the American Football Conference

Both squads with solid claims to be better than all of the three eight and two sides are National Football Conference West rivals the Seattle and Los Angeles, who both put up 40 burgers to reach seven and two ahead of the upcoming Hollywood blockbuster meeting between the two in Los Angeles

Both have secured four victories in a consecutive games, have quarterbacks in Matthew Stafford and Darnold playing at an elite level (although Darnold had turnover issues on game day) with excellent pass catchers, and defenses giving up fewer than twenty points a contest

Both could realistically be without a loss as too - particularly the Los Angeles as their two defeats occurred in overtime against the San Francisco and then that agonising loss in Philadelphia when they had a game-winning field goal with the final play blocked and returned by the Philadelphia for a touchdown

Seattle also lost to San Francisco, with a last-minute score in the opening week, before losing to the last kick of the game against the Tampa Bay - so they are genuinely among the top teams in the NFL

The next matchup on Sunday could be the most exciting of the year so far
