Manchester City's manager Expresses Regret Over Broadcast Crew Altercation Following Defeat to Magpies

Pep Guardiola has admitted feeling "shame" following a confrontation with a TV crew member in the wake of the Citizens' loss away to the Magpies on Saturday.

At full time, an emotional Guardiola stepped onto the field and engaged in intense talks with match official Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, while also handling the headphones of the camera operator.

"I said sorry," the manager remarked. "I feel embarrassed, ashamed, when I see it. It's not acceptable. I apologised after one second to the operator. I am who I am. After 1,000 games I'm far from perfect, errors happen."

"What is for sure, I defend any team and my club, that’s for sure. The reason why I want to defend my team is clear – because from my experience to win the Premier League we have to do 100 points, 98 points, otherwise we don’t win it."

City's Position and Guardiola's Assessment

The team sits in third and trail leaders Arsenal by seven points following their fourth loss of the season. "Losing four games out of 12 we have to improve a lot," he conceded. "Mathematically, it’s possible still achieve all."

The manager was asked if this meant the quadruple was a realistic aim, he responded: "As a seasoned reporter, did you hear my talk about the quadruple last winter when we won the quadruple? Never."

Interaction with Guimarães

Regarding his confrontation with Guimarães, Guardiola said: "We have known Bruno for many years and post-match, even at the Etihad, we talk in the tunnel. Our paths always cross and we get along well. I enjoy it. I’m an emotional guy, I like discussing and move my hands."

He wouldn't mind if an opposition manager addressed his squad immediately after a game. "Not if it's respectful like I always have done, it’s not a problem," he said, before referencing Barrott. "The referee was involved for 95 minutes, 98 minutes, constantly. My God, he was involved."

Debatable Calls

City were unhappy that the officials did not award City a penalty on a Schär tackle against Foden, and doubted Bruno's positioning when Harvey Barnes scored the decisive strike. Pictures published later show he was level.

Upcoming Milestone

Guardiola will take charge his century in Europe versus Leverkusen this week. "That's impressive, showing we compete annually," he commented.

The club has ten points from four matches of the league phase, while Leverkusen have five.
