The Two Fatalities Identified in Brown University Shooting as Law Enforcement Press On With Manhunt for Killer.

Two students who died in the weekend's violent attack in Providence were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their killer persisted following the discharge by authorities in Rhode Island of the sole person of interest in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.

Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s branch of the campus GOP group, as the club stated. The White House press secretary also expressed sympathies publicly, remarking: “There are no words. Remembering her loved ones and companions, especially her parents.”

An International Student

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his freshman year at the renowned school, family members said.

The victim's identification was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a memorial statement.

Details of the Attack

Nine more persons were injured in the weekend shooting in the engineering department of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Law enforcement reported late Sunday that a 24-year-old male detained in a search at a Hampton Inn about approximately 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was being released.

“There is a killer at large,” declared Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you must reassess and head another way, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last 24 hours or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, admitted: “We know that this is likely to cause fresh anxiety for our community”.

The shooter discharged a weapon inside a lecture hall in the engineering building on Saturday, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm handgun, a police source reported to the media outlet.

Police that searched the hotel found a pair of pistols and two loaded 30-round magazines when the suspect was arrested, the news agency reported.

The Wounded Victims

Of the nine hurt, one pupil was allowed to go home, said Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in serious yet stable state, and another was critically ill, police said on Sunday.

A private school, a private academy in Durham, North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

More Condolences

Cook was remembered at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only during her upbringing... but at Brown she was a shining example in that specific location as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the group. “Ella was known for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she served her chapter and fellow classmates,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a message. “Our profound condolences go out to the Umurzokov family, friends, and peers and grieve for of his promising future.”

Broader Statistics

The weekend's murders at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US college with about over seven thousand undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, occurred during one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in the current year, according to records. Monday was the 349th day of the year.
